Houston Physicians’ Hospital provides colonoscopy and endoscopy procedures in our outpatient gastroenterological department using minimally invasive techniques and the latest in surgical technology to aid surgeons in providing full diagnostic and treatment care. Endoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure used by specialists to view the interior of the gastrointestinal tract. Using similar technology, a colonoscopy uses an endoscope to view the large intestine and rectum. Both procedures are performed by gastroenterological specialists in Houston Physicians’ Hospital’s state-of-the-art outpatient care facility. During endoscopic procedures, physicians can extract tissue samples for immediate biopsy using nonsurgical techniques. In some cases, your surgeon may perform the actual treatment to the affected area during the procedure to stanch a bleeding ulcer, remove polyps on the colon, or remove gallstones from the bile duct. Colonoscopy or endoscopy procedures may be recommended for the following medical conditions:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Gastroesophageal acid reflux
  • Pancreatitis
  • Hepatitis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Jaundice
  • Polyps of the large intestine
